Good Morning, we are saddened to announce the cancellation of the Islay Marathon 2020. Due to ongoing CO-VID19 situation and current Government guidelines we will be unable to operate the marathon as normal.We had hoped that guidelines would be relaxed in time for the marathon in September but this appears to be unlikely. All runners who have entered for this years marathon have now been moved to the 2021 date. The Islay Marathon will be taking place on Sunday 13th September 2020. We had a very successful marathon last year and we're confident that this year's marathon will be just as good. It's a fabulous route with some great views running from Portnahaven, along the length of the Rhinns to Bridgend and then following the High Road all the way to Port Ellen. As marathons go, it doesn't get much better than that.

The event is also in memory of Menzies MacAffer, a former pupil of Islay High School who went on to serve with distinction in the Royal Marines and was a keen marathon runner, but whose life was tragically cut short. The Menzies MacAffer trophies, which have been kindly donated by his family,will be presented to the first male and female runners home at the Islay Marathon.

The marathon will start at the vilIage hall in Portnahaven at 7:30am and finish at the Ramsay Hall in Port Ellen. There will be a free bus leaving Port Ellen at about 6am to pick up any runners along the way, for those who want it, to take them to the start at Portnahaven. I know this is an early start but as much of the route is on a single track roads, were trying to ensure there is as little traffic as possible.

It is £30 to enter. Relay teams of 2-4 can take part if full marathon is too much with a £40 entry fee for a team. All runners will need to register on Saturday 12th in the High School from 3:30 pm.

Monies raised from the event will be used toward Islay High School Expeditions.

Come and give this marathon your support, and if not taking part, then please give the runners a welcoming cheer along the route or when they arrive at Port Ellen. Teas, Coffee and Home Baking will be on sale at the Ramsay Hall from about 10am on Sunday Morning.
